The Accord is one of Honda’s most popular models in the US; however, things are dramatically different in Europe where the model has just been dropped off the Japanese automaker’s line up. The decision to end sales of the Accord has been taken after the vehicle’s disappointing performance in the European markets.
European sales for the model fell by 19 per cent to a new low of just 3,453 units last year. Speaking to Automotive News Europe, Leon Brannan, Honda’s UK car division head says, “We are running out the Accord and we will not return to the segment.”
The Accord first arrived in Europe back in 1977. Honda starting producing it locally at its factory in England in 1992, however, as production shifted from the UK to Japan in 2000, the brand struggled to match up to the discounts offered by rival brands including BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen due to unfavourable economic conditions.
