The Honda Mobilio was revealed in September at the 2013 Indonesia International Motor Show and since then it was being speculated that the Mobilio would come to India. Now, IAB reports that they have confirmation of the car marking its presence at the 2014 Auto Expo in February.
It is the third car to be based on the Brio platform and shares much of its underpinnings and design philosophy with the hatchback and the Amaze sedan. Even the typical beige interiors reflect much of the design sense as seen in the Amaze sedan. We have already reported on the car’s interiors.
The Honda Mobilio will apparently be available in three variants – S, E and E CVT. As per reports, the upcoming car is expected to come with two engine options, namely petrol and diesel. The Mobilio, a four-metre plus MPV and will be powered by the same 1.5-litre petrol mill from the Civic sedan. In India, though, it is expected to also be launched with the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel mill that currently powers the Amaze compact sedan. While the petrol gets a five-speed manual and five-speed automatic, the Indian spec diesel-engined version will get a five-speed manual gearbox.
With Honda Mobilio, the auto company is willing to establish itself in the steadily growing utility vehicle segment. The Mobilio is a budget MUV, so expect lot of component sharing so the pricing strategy is bound to be pretty aggressive. We expect that the company would price it from Rs 5.7 lakh –Rs 8.5 lakh. Once launched in India it will hope to wrest the market away from the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Mahindra Quanto, Chevrolet Enjoy and the Nissan Evalia.
