We recently reported that Honda has started the production of the Mobilio in India. Now, we have pictures of the car on the production line at its facility in Greater Noida. The MPV might be launched in July this year.
The Honda Mobilio is an extended version of the Amaze and measures 4.38 metres in length, 1.6 metres in width and 1.6 metres in height. The MPV has a wheelbase of 2.60 metres. It gets the same grille as the Amaze, while the headlights and the shape of the bonnet have been carried over as well. Its only from the side that it looks like an MPV. The changes at the back are evident with the wrap- around tail lamps and a trapezoid-shaped number plate slot at the rear. Only the top-end variant will boast of a roof mounted spoiler and reflectors at the base of the door.
The cabin is similar to its other siblings, the Amaze and the Brio. Inside, the beige upholstery, centre console with 2-DIN touch screen music system sans the CD player and rotating knobs for AC controls, circular AC vents are directly carried over from the sedan and the hatchback.
The picture is of the V variant of the diesel version of the Mobilio. This i-DTEC will be the first diesel trim in the world as the Indian market only gets the 1.5 litre EarthDreams diesel engine used in the Honda Amaze diesel car. The petrol version is powered by the same 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine which is currently powering the Honda City. This mill that produces 117bhp of power and 146Nm of torque is mated to a five-speed manual transmission and we do not expect Honda to introduce the automatic CVT variant in India so soon.
The Honda Mobilio was previously displayed at the Indonesia Motor Show in September 2013 and was showcased at the Auto Expo 2014 in February. Honda conducted customer previews earlier to take ideas especially from emerging car markets like Indonesia and India.
The Mobilio will be available in three variants – S, E and V. and is expected to enter the MPV segment with a bang and it will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy, Ashok Leyland Stile and Nissan Evalia.
