Honda, on the back of success of the Amaze compact sedan in India, Thailand and now Nepal may bring the car to the Chinese market next year. CarNewsChina has got its hands on a few patent drawings which reveal that China spec Amaze is expected to remain the same as the one produced in India and Thailand.
The China spec car is expected to be longer, have more rear seat space but will only be offered with petrol engine due to Chinese customers’ preferences and laws on diesel vehicles. The petrol mill is expected to be the 1.2-litre unit that produces 88PS, 109Nm of torque and will be mated to a five-speed manual or a five speed automatic.
Honda will almost certainly manufacture the car locally by Guangqi-Honda under the terms of the GAC-Honda JV at their plant in Guangdong province. The plant currently manufactures the Accord, City, Crosstour SUV, Fit/Jazz premium hatchback and Odyssey minivan. If Honda puts the Amaze into production, it slot in below the City and will be the smallest sedan that they will be selling for the Chinese market.
The Honda Amaze was launched for the Indian market on 11th of April and has been a resounding success for the Japanese automaker. It is a sub four metre compact sedan and is also available with a 1.5-litre oil burner, an Indian first for Honda.
