Honda Motors is likely to discontinue the Accord in India in a bid to streamline its range and focus more on producing mass market cars. The information comes just weeks after we got the news that the company has stopped assembling the Civic and existing stocks are expected to last till Diwali.
The move is purely because the numbers have dropped considerably and that is due to lack of diesel engine option for the premium sedan. Also, the Accord comes as CBU to India, and since the all-new 2013 model has been unveiled the company might completely stop production of the current Accord globally. It makes no sense to bring the new model here because it will be more expensive than the current Accord and still won’t offer diesel.
Honda actually offers diesel engine for the Accord in the European market, but the engines are not compatible with the poor quality fuel available in India. Honda is working on diesel options for the developing market – specifically India, and the Brio will be the first car to get a oilburner by the end of this.
