The Honda Civic facelift has been launched in Malaysia for RM 1,13,800 (Rs 20.98 lakh). This refreshed model is cheaper than the previous model by RM 2,200 (Rs 40,500) and comes with minor cosmetic changes.
The updated Honda Civic gets mild changes to the grille and bumper. While the grille gets a honeycomb mesh, the chrome slat is revised and the air dam also gets a chrome embellishment. The new model will get a new twilight blue colour apart from the standard colours it is available in. Apart from these standard features, prospective buyers can spruce up the look of their Civic with Modulo and Mugen kits.
Though this entry-level D-Segment sedan is now more affordable, the company has not cut down on the features in the car. Push-button start, automatic headlamps, front dual airbags and vehicle stability assist are offered as standard. The infotainment system is now upgraded to a larger 7-inch display.
There are no mechanical changes to the refreshed Civic and it still comes in two engine options. The larger 2.0-litre SOHC i-VTEC petrol engine churns out 155bhp of power and 190Nm of torque, while the 1.8-litre iVTEC four-cylinder petrol mill produces 141bhp of power and 174Nm of torque. The former comes equipped with paddle shifters and gets 17-inch alloy wheels, and the latter gets 16-inch rims. Both engines come mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox and both cars come with a fully independent suspension.
In India, the Honda Civic was discontinued from the market in 2012. Though there are no plans of the company to bring the car back to India, Honda Cars India recently imported the new Civic diesel for R&D purposes. So it is still unsure if the company will consider the Civic's return to our country with the new model.
