Honda India has launched their premium hatchback, the Jazz, in India for a starting price of Rs 5.30 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Jazz will be available in both petrol and diesel guise with the fully-loaded VX top-end diesel variant costing Rs 8.59 lakh.
Based on a new platform and the ‘Exciting H Design’ philosophy, the premium hatchback will take on Hyundai’s Elite i20 in the upper end of the hatchback segment. The Jazz features a sporty aerodynamic silhouette, though the overall design is more on the lines of a practical mini MPV.
The interior has been designed to provide maximum space and in keeping with times also offers loads of features. The most important addition over its predecessor though, is the diesel engine. The 1.5-litre i-DTEC Earth Dreams oilburner is tuned to produce 98bhp and 200Nm of torque, powering the front wheels a via six-speed manual transmission. The petrol version uses the 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine producing 90bhp and 110Nm of torque. The petrol will be available with the option of both the five-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission (coupled with paddle shifters).
At 354 litres, the boot of the Jazz is on par with many bigger cars, also the seating can be folded to liberate lot more space. Apart from the i20, the Jazz competes with Volkswagen Polo and many of the compact sedans.
