Google Zeitgeist 2014 has revealed that Honda was the most searched automotive brand in India while its Mobilio MPV was the most searched for car. The second car in the list is the little Chevrolet Spark while third and fourth positions have been scooped up by the Mahindra Scorpio and the Ford EcoSport.
Well, well don’t just search for mainstream cars and that is proven by the number 5 slot taken by Lamborghini (probably the Huracan and Aventador). The sixth spot goes to the Hyundai Xcent and Tata Zest finishes at seventh.
Accounting the brand wise search it seems like Honda has beaten Maruti Suzuki at least in the digital space with Maruti playing second fiddle. The third place goes to Hyundai followed by Chevrolet, Audi, Ford and Nissan.
While the data provided by Google Zeitgeist is a nice tool to understand what consumers are searching for, but a few questions lurk in our minds. Chevrolet is nowhere in the sales leaderboard and yet it ranks behind Hyundai in the research data.
Similarly, if there is one way the Spark’s sales numbers are looking then it is just downwards and surprisingly it finishes runner-up to the Mobilio. I once read on a church board, “Come inside as Google doesn’t have all the answers.” While Google can’t answer on how the Chevy Spark made it to the top, we just ponder on what the carmaker might feel like after reading the data.
