- Unlikely to be launched in India
- Honda is reportedly testing its hybrid powertrain for India
- Hybrid powertrain could be offered on the new-gen Honda City
The Honda Insight hybrid was spied testing in India recently. The Insight was introduced in 2018 and is Honda’s answer to the Toyota Prius. The test mule seen here comes sans any camouflage, and is shod with emission testing equipment.
Honda Cars India doesn't have any plans to launch the Insight hybrid here, and the prototype could be for testing the hybrid powertrain, which could make its way into future Honda cars in India. The next-generation Honda City is expected to be offered with a hybrid powertrain, and Honda may use a derivative of the Insight's hybrid motor.
The Honda Insight is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol motor that is paired to an electric motor to develop a maximum output of 151bhp. It uses the Atkinson cycle for combustion, and is mated to an e-CVT. The new-gen Honda City is expected to feature a dual-motor hybrid setup, but it isn't confirmed whether it will get a mild-hybrid system or a full-blown hybrid setup like the one on the Insight.
