Honda has updated their official website with the Mobilio MPV. The car was previously showcased at the Indonesia Motor Show in September 2013 and exhibited at the Auto Expo 2014. The vehicle should be in production by now at its Tapukara or Noida plant if the company plans to launch it soon in India.
The Honda Mobilio, an extended version of the Amaze, is 4.38 meters in length, 1.6 meters in width and 1.6 meters in height. The MPV has a wheelbase of 2.60 meters. The vehicle gets the same front grille as the Amaze and the headlights as well as the shape of the bonnet have been carried over from the compact sedan. The side profile shows the changes the multi-utility vehicle gets, with wrap- around tail lamps and a trapezoid-shaped number plate slot at the back. The top-end variants of the car get a roof mounted spoiler and reflectors at the base of the door.
The insides are same as the Amaze and Brio hatchback. The beige upholstery, centre console with 2-DIN touch screen music system sans the CD player and rotating knobs for AC controls, circular AC vents are directly carried over from the former siblings.
The Honda Mobilio is powered by the same 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine which is currently powering the Honda City. The petrol engine churning out 117bhp of power and 146Nm of torque is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. We do not expect Honda to introduce the automatic CVT variant in India so soon. The Indian market will also get the 1.5 litre EarthDreams diesel engine used in the Honda Amaze diesel car.
Honda conducted customer previews earlier to take ideas from prospective customers especially from developing car markets like Indonesia and India and it looks like the car might be launched in our country within a couple of months. The Honda Mobilio will apparently be available in three variants – S, E and E CVT. The vehicle is expected to enter the MPV segment with a bang and it will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy, Ashok Leyland Stile and Nissan Evalia.
