The Honda HR-V/Vezel is all set to make its European debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October. It was launched in Japan in late 2013 as the Vezel crossover. It is based on the Jazz and shares much of its underpinnings with the premium hatchback.
Reports suggest that the car that will be shown at the Motor Show is expected to be a prototype but since the car has already been on sale in Japan for close to a year, we expect that the display model will actually be a production ready model.
The Honda HR-V will be offered with the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine in standard form as well as the hybrid mode where it has been mated to an electric motor and a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. The European market is also expected to get the 1.2-litre four-pot motor as well as the 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine.
In the European markets it is expected to rival the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross, Nissan Juke, Fiat 500X and the Jeep Renegade. India is not expected to get the HR-V anytime soon, as there is currently no demand for premium five-seater crossovers though the Suzuki SX4 S-Cross is expected to change this trend soon.
