Honda is set to launch the HR-V in Malaysia next month. The Japanese automaker has even announced that it has started taking bookings for the compact crossover ahead of the official launch. The vehicle which is sold in Japan as ‘Vezel’ made its ASEAN debut in September last year.
The Malaysian-spec HR-V will be sold in three trim levels - the entry-level S, E and range-topping V. All trims will feature Honda’s familiar 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine paired with a CVT gearbox. While Honda hasn’t officially confirmed power outputs yet, the HR-V is said to produce around 140bhp of power and 172Nm of torque, putting it on par with the Civic 1.8 petrol.
Launched first in 2013 in Japan, the Jazz-based HR-V has been a major success for Honda in the JDM. Unfortunately, Honda India has already confirmed that the HR-V currently has no place in its Indian line up due to reasons unknown to us. However, given the pace at which technology grows, it is safe to assume that the HR-V will be introduced in the Indian market at least in its second generation.
