Honda has confirmed in an interview with Business Standard that it will launch a diesel variant of the City and the 2014 Jazz for the Indian market over the course of the next year. The Japanese automaker has also said that it plans to launch a crossover utility vehicle in India; the car, we believe, will most likely be the Mobilio MPV which should make its Indian debut at the time of the 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
The new Honda City is scheduled for a Japanese launch this November at the Tokyo Motor Show. The Honda City is expected to embody the new ‘Exciting H Design’ philosophy that was first seen on the new Jazz/Fit. The company has said that it decided not modify the existing City to fit the diesel engine but rather decided to introduce a new one altogether next year. The Honda City has been a popular seller for them and was one of their models that kept them afloat in the market before the introduction of the Amaze diesel earlier this year.
The 2014 Honda Jazz was launched for the Japanese auto market on September 5 and features a number of changes including the overall design. Along with the engine line- up being offered in Japan, we also expect that Honda will fit a diesel mill for the Jazz when it is launched in India.
We saw the Mobilio MPV at the Indonesian International Motor Show last month. It will go into production at the beginning of next year in Indonesia and is expected to be launched in India a few months later. It is the third vehicle to be launched on the Brio platform and is also expected to get a diesel engine for the Indian market.
If the Amaze is anything to go by, then it is almost certain that the new offerings from Honda next year are sure to raise the bar in their respective segments.
