> This test mule can be seen with a tweaked nose, reshaped front air dams and restyled head lamps
> Current Type R’s 2.0-litre motor pumps out 306bhp/399Nm, mated to six-speed manual gearbox
Going by the shots that our spy photographer has clicked in Europe, it looks like the Honda Civic Type R is due for an update despite being in some markets for just a year.
Although this sighting suggests that a facelift could be in the pipeline, we believe otherwise. Since only the nose and the rear bumper have been camouflaged, sources suggest that this Type R prototype could be a more powerful iteration.
There’ve already been earlier reports about Honda’s plans to introduce a more affordable Type R, which essentially means more versions were being plotted. Considering the Ford Focus RS is about 44bhp more powerful than the current Type R, there’s certainly no harm in expecting a more powerful Type R. Possibly even with an all-wheel drive set-up!
We will have more news for you once Honda and our spy photographers share more details in the time to come. Stay tuned to CarWale.
