- Honda will officially commence bookings for the new-gen Civic in India tomorrow for a token amount of Rs 31,000.
- Will be launched on 7 March with two powertrain options.
Honda has now officially started taking bookings for the new Civic for an initial down payment of Rs 31,000. The tenth generation Civic will be available in India with two powertrain options. Besides that, this D-segment sedan gets a diesel engine for the first time in the country.
Showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo last year, the Civic is built on an entirely new platform and bears Honda’s newest design philosophy. The Civic now wears the signature thick chrome slat in the front with modern LED headlamps and LED DRLs which still look futuristic. Unlike the typical sedan’s profile, the Civic’s posterior has a notchback-like line with a high boot lid and a sloping roof. The high-placed LED taillight has a boomerang shape which complements the twin exhausts and nicely designed tail.
On the inside, the Civic will get a stylish yet typical Honda’s cabin as seen on the CR-V and the City. The black-beige interior will get brushed aluminium highlights with a seven-inch capacitive touchscreen infotainment system dominating the centre console. The instrument console of the older Civic was very distinctive, but the new one will bear a thoroughly modern layout. The Civic will come with all the bells and whistles expected from a D-segment sedan as well with many segment-first features.
Under the hood will be a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel turbo engine which also does duty in the CR-V. The Earth Dreams unit makes 119bhp at 4000rpm and 300Nm of torque at 2000rpm. The oil burner gets a six-speed manual gearbox only with no choice of automatic at the launch. The petrol motor, on the other hand, is the 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine which makes 140bhp at 6500rpm and 174Nm at 4300 rpm. Interestingly, the petrol engine does not get a manual option and only comes with a CVT gearbox with paddle shifters. According to Honda, the Civic, in diesel guise, has a fuel efficiency of 26.8kmpl. Meanwhile, Civic petrol will boast a fuel efficiency of 16.5kmpl.
Honda is expected to price the new Civic in India at around Rs 18-22 lakhs (ex-showroom). When launched, the Civic will compete against the likes of Toyota Corolla Altis, Hyundai Elantra, and Skoda Octavia in the Indian market.
