Honda City, the iconic Japanese sedan, has completed its 20 years in India. The City has been the top choice in the C-segment. And this becomes even more evident now since the City managed to sell 62,573 units in the calendar year, making it the highest selling mid-sized sedan in 2017.
As Honda's flagship sedan and also the most popular one, the City achieved another milestone last year in October when it chalked up seven lakh units of sales in India. In the previous calendar year, Honda managed to sell a total of 1,62,102 units. This means, that the City comprised 38.6 per cent of the total Honda sales in 2017.
Commenting on the City’s accomplishment, Yoichiro Ueno, president and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd, said, “2017 has been a milestone year for Honda Cars in India, as our best seller Honda City completes 2 decades of unparalleled success in India. Honda City has emerged as the highest selling mid-size sedan during 2017. I would like to thank our customers for their strong support of the model.”
In its fourth generation now, the City received a comprehensive update last year. The Japanese sedan is available with two powertrain options and three transmissions across 11 variants. The petrol variant is the iconic famous 1.5-litre i-VTEC putting out 117bhp and 145Nm via a five-speed manual. The diesel is the new i-DTEC mill which produces 99bhp and 200Nm and comes mated to a six-speed manual. There’s also a petrol CVT available across the range (except the base model) and it accounts for about 30 per cent of the City’s sales.
The City is feature-laden too as it gets auto LED headlamps and tail lights with DRLs, stylish alloys, and a new spoiler with LED brake lights. There’s also the new seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity and reverse camera, auto wipers, driver and passenger airbags with the option of side and curtain airbags.
