Riding high on the success of the new City and the Amaze diesel, the Japanese carmaker has revealed that it is targeting an almost 50 per cent rise in sales to 2 lakh units in 2014-15.
"When we will start the second shift at the Tapukara facility, we will require more manpower. We think we will add 800-1,000 people in our overall headcount in India by the end of this fiscal," HCIL Senior Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen has been reported saying.
With the second shift up and running, the Tapukara facility reportedly has a total installed capacity of 1.2 lakh units. Honda, looking to target sales of up to 3 lakh units a year by 2016-17, is likely to further ramp up the production, adds Mr. Sen.
Honda India has had a successful run with the new City and the Amaze, mainly due to the availability of a diesel option. With the upcoming Mobilio MPV and the new Jazz expected to do well here in the Indian market, the added capacity at its Tapukara facility is sure be put to good use with the advent of new models.
