Honda India has announced a voluntary recall of 41,580 vehicles in the country for the replacement of Takata airbags. The vehicles that are affected by the recall include Jazz, City, Civic and Accord, all manufactured in the year 2012.
Of the total 41,580 Honda vehicles, the City sedan is the highest affected vehicle with a total of 32,456units. The number of Jazz includes 7,265 units, Civic is 1,200 units and the Accord accounts for 659 units. The replacement will be carried out free of cost to the customer at Honda’s dealerships across India. The company will communicate with the customers directly as the replacement of the airbag inflators would commence with immediate effect.
The customers can also check whether their vehicle is covered under the recall by visiting the company’s official website and entering the 17 alpha-numeric characters of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the special microsite.
It is the second time Honda has recalled the cars for the airbags issue after recalling 1.9lakh cars in July last year to replace front airbags. The infamous Takata airbag disaster has affected more than seven million vehicles around the world. Japanese car manufacturers have been particularly been affected by the Takata airbag issue apart from European and American manufacturers. The Japanese airbag manufacturer is now undergoing investigation and it is speculated that the company will need to pay a whopping $1 billion (Rs 6,800 crore) in penalties.
