The Japanese carmaker has come up with their BR-V compact SUV after doing an extensive study on the growing compact SUV segment in India. It will soon join their expanding portfolio.
The BR-V stands for Bold Runabout Vehicle and is based on the Mobilio or the stretched Brio platform. It boasts of wider front and rear tracks and stands tall with a high ground clearance.
A wide chrome grille, projector headlamps, a large air dam, round fog lamps and chiseled bumpers complete the front look.
The large alloy wheels and high roof rails have given the car a sporty appearance. The muscular wheel arches add to the aggressive presence.
At the back, wrap-around tail lamps that extend under the wind screen can be seen. The registration plate is placed at a lower level similar to the Creta.
The black body cladding all over also adds to the sporty character. This styling element has been well-appreciated by most of the Indian audience.
The BR-V is offered as a seven-seat arrangement and three-row configuration. With loads of space, there is a rear air conditioner between the first and second row seats.
The equipment list is in line with the current cabin layout of cars from Honda's portfolio. But, the quality of materials in the interior are upgraded making the cabin of the BR-V more premium and up-market.
The instrument cluster is new and gets a multi-Information display. It is still simple with an rpm meter on the left and a speedometer in the centre.
On the engine front, there will be the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engine options mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. The petrol will also get a CVT transmission as an option.
Currently, the BR-V is the third model developed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific Co. Ltd. (HRAP) in Thailand for the Asian markets. However, it will be locally produced for the Indian market.
The new BR-V might be priced below Rs 10 lakh and will compete with the Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster in the Indian market.
