Honda is riding high on the wave of its Earth Dreams diesel technology in India and it seems like their sole product that didn’t get an oil burner – the Brio, will get one soon. According to rumours, the Brio won’t get a de-tuned version of the 1.5-litre i-Dtec engine instead, it will get a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder motor.
Rumours also indicate that the new motor will essentially be the 1.5-litre minus one cylinder. Make no mistake, this engine isn’t coming soon into the outgoing model, instead it will be launched with the next-generation Brio that is at least three years away from seeing the light of production.
Apart from the engine, Honda is reportedly working on giving the car better interior equipment and features. It might also get a more conventional tailgate instead of the current glass hatch. This also means that the Amaze sedan and the Mobilio that are based on the Brio will get well appointed interiors.
Honda never really cracked it with the Brio and despite it being a peppy hatchback that is fun to drive it didn’t get its due. However, the Amaze sedan and the Mobilio are a hit. Honda will want to change that and we believe the new Brio will have some remarkable improvements over the current car. Also, it might also turn out to be one of the most frugal diesel engines in India.
