Honda introduced the compact sedan- Amaze in the Indian market in April last year. The launch of the vehicle created a huge excitement amongst buyers and the car is still enjoying a good demand in our country. It will soon reach the milestone of one lakh units of the car sold.
Honda will roll out the 1,00,000th Amaze by the end of this month or early next month. It will then be one amongst the most accomplished launches to take place in the last 24 months in India. The Amaze will then also join the Hyundai Grand i10 and Renault Duster who have reached the six-figure sales mark.
The Honda Amaze is a sedan based on the Brio’s platform with its length less than four-metres. The carmaker has managed to save the excise duty by keeping it under four-metres, eventually being able to price it very competitively. Though a sub-four-metre compact sedan, there is enough space inside the cabin and it comes with the basic features for an Indian consumer.
The compact sedan is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. While the petrol version is powered by the 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine, the oil-burner gets the 1.5-litre four-cylinder i-DTEC diesel engine. This is Honda's first diesel motor in India and it is this mill to which the huge success can be attributed to. This new Earth Dreams diesel motor has proved to become one of the most versatile diesel engines currently in production. While it now also powers the new City and the Mobilio, it will be carried over to the Jazz as well which is expected to be launched in India next year.
The Honda Amaze was initially only manufactured at the company's facility in Greater Noida. Since February this year, the carmaker started producing the Amaze at their Tapukara plant in Rajasthan to cater to the high demand. In April this year, Honda launched an anniversary edition of the Amaze to celebrate the car’s first birthday. Honda has met quite a bit of success with the launch of the Amaze in India and the car continues to return high sales figures for the manufacturer.
