It seems like Honda might launch its popular compact sedan, the Amaze, in a CNG variant. A test mule of the same was spotted testing in Noida, apparently, the car had a CNG sticker on the rear windscreen which gave away the plot.
The CNG variant will be powered by the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC motor which makes 88bhp and 109Nm of torque when driven on petrol. There might be some power loss in the CNG variant, and we expect it to lose at least 8bhp and 10Nm of torque. This variant might be available only with the five-speed manual transmission. These are still early days to guess its efficiency, but considering the petrol variant is rated at 18kmpl, the CNG might well cross the 21kmpkg mark.
We aren’t sure of the variants the car will be launched in, but an educated guess is that the car might not be available in the top-spec VX trim.
This would be the first modern compact sedan in India to be available in CNG, as apart from the Indigo eCS e-max none provide this option. The Amaze competes with the Maruti Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and the Tata Zest.
