Honda Accord has now gotten more affordable by ₹ 3 lakh. The hybrid sedan was introduced in India with a price tag of Rs 37 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) in October last year. But over time, the Accord was retailing at ₹ 40.58 lakh (ex-Delhi). Now that the GST would be coming into full effect pretty soon, the hybrids are facing a dilemma of higher taxation slabs. Honda is looking to grab the opportunity and sell a few more models before the hybrids get more expensive. So, the price for the Accord is now back to ₹ 37.22 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Accord Hybrid was launched after a long absence in the country. The flagship sedan from Japanese manufacturer was introduced only in the single variant with one hybrid powertrain. It took the CBU route to India, and hence was a very expensive proposition with its price tag. The hybrid powertrain didn’t help the cause either and as a result, the Accord witnessed very dismal sales in India since its reintroduction.
Powering the Accord Hybrid is a combination of a 2.4-litre petrol four-cylinder petrol engine and two electric motors with a combined power output of 215bhp and 315Nm of torque. The transmission option is an e-CVT sending power to the front wheels. The entry-level luxury sedan gets a host of technologies and features like full LED lamps, leather upholstery, touchscreen infotainment system, electrically adjustable front seats and massive cabin space.
The Accord Hybrid has faced stiff competition from the Toyota Camry. The latter being locally assembled, is a lot more affordable than the Accord and has been seeing decent sales since its introduction in the country. The price revision may help increase Honda’s sales of Accord above the 58 units it has sold since its introduction in India.
