Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) also showcased its flagship sedan Honda Accord at the 2016 Auto Expo. The sedan will be launched for the Indian market this year.
Earlier, HCIL will launch only the petrol variant in our country and later also bring the petrol hybrid. The one on display at the motor show is the 9th generation of the premium sedan. The car looks refreshing with its sporty looks, gets an efficient powertrain and is packed with many features. We can expect the petrol hybrid to be launched in its facelifted avatar in 2017.
The re-introduction of the Accord to Honda's Indian portfolio is mainly to further strengthen its sedan line-up. Honda believes that the Accord enjoys a strong legacy in the premium sedan segment in India and the earlier generations have made a strong foothold in the market.
Katsushi Inoue, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd, said, “As we celebrate 20 years of our existence in India and building an affinity with over one million Indian customers, HCIL is adopting a new brand direction of 'Advanced and Exciting' and our products, dealerships and communication will be guided by this new brand direction. Year 2015 has been a very successful year for HCIL as we achieved our record sales of 2,00,000 units in a calendar year. The launch of exciting new models Honda BR-V and Accord in 2016 will help us accelerate our growth this year and also strengthen our brand in the country."
