Mahindra, the Indian car manufacturer, has been betting big on the electric future and it seems that they are strategically working to achieve their goals. After the acquisition of the car-design legend, Pininfarina, Mahindra seems to have availed the services of one of the most experienced men in the automotive space – Michael Perschke.
Michael Perschke had quit Audi and all everyone knew was that he was joining an EV start-up in a strategic position. According to latest reports, this EV start-up is Mahindra’s new independent venture which will foray into high-end performance and luxury electric vehicles. And this might be executed under the Pininfarina brand which has the legacy and the design capabilities. Also, with Pininfarina owning manufacturing facilities in Italy, in spite of its common ownership, the EV brand will have no connection with Mahindra Electric.
Mahindra has been the EV pioneer in India after taking over Maini’s EV business and launching the next generation of the Reva, the Mahindra E20. With the e-Verito sedan going into production a couple of years ago and the e-KUV showcased at the Auto Expo 2018, Mahindra has been leading India’s electric journey from the front.
This new independent brand will also help Mahindra bring home a share of the global EV pie which is set to multiply in the next decade. This also sheds new light on the Pininfarina H600 luxury EV sedan concept that was unveiled last year and it might be heading towards the production line, as of now.
