It may not be in the news much but when it does, Isuzu likes to make quite a statement. This time, the brand has done that with a major upgrade for the MU-X SUV. It is actually a mid-life facelift for the SUV since this generation was launched in 2020.
Design highlights
The highlights of the exterior design are a new face, wheels, and front bumper. In addition, Isuzu has also added a new top-spec RS variant that’s defined by dark elements all around, including the wheels.
Interior and engine
The interior layout remains unchanged but there is a bigger display for the infotainment system. Isuzu has expanded the feature significantly to include the likes of a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, and Level 2 ADAS. It can be had in six single-tone shades and three dual-tone shades.
The Thai market gets this MU-X with either a 1.9-litre diesel producing 110bhp/365Nm or a 3.0-litre diesel producing 187bhp/450Nm. A six-speed MT or a six-speed torque converter AT are the two transmission options available, while 4WD with a shift-on-the-fly mechanism is available in the top-spec variant.
India launch
The MU-X that’s been on sale in India is pretty long in the tooth having been around for well over six years now. While it is cheaper than its three-row rivals, there is a good reason for that – it is lacking on the features front when compared to models such as the MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner, and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq. Bringing this to India would do well to give the MU-X a fighting chance in terms of volume as well as boosting the Isuzu name among SUV buyers.
