The 2016 Jaguar XF has officially arrived in India albeit in a discreet manner. Starting at Rs 49.50 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, this 2016 model represents a big leap forward for the XF given that it’s underpinned by a whole new platform and also gets Jaguar’s much cleaner Ingenium diesel engine.
Here are 5 all-new things on the 2016 Jaguar XF that you ought to know.
Lightweight aluminium architecture
Jaguar, as we know, uses aluminium to a great degree for its cars and the new XF is no different. The car, in fact, uses a new lightweight aluminium architecture which is significantly stiffer and lighter than the structure used in XF's predecessor. So much so that the 2016 model weighs nearly 190kg less compared to the previous gen XF. Jaguar has used aluminium to form the body sides, hood and the front wings.
Engine range
The 2016 XF is the first Jaguar Land Rover model in India to make use of the Ingenium diesel engine. This 4-cylinder turbocharged unit features an all-aluminium construction and delivers 177bhp and 430Nm of torque. Up to 20kg lighter than equivalent previous generation engines, the Ingenium diesel engine is essentially more efficient. The petrol engine, on the other hand, is also a 2-litre 4-cylinder motor though one that makes 237bhp and 340Nm of torque.
Premium audio system
Luxury car buyers tend to expect a mega sounding premium audio system and the one fitted into the 2016 XF is likely to fit their bill. For lower-spec variants, Jaguar is offering a 380W sound system with 11 speakers while the top-spec Portfolio variant gets an 825W surround sound system with up to 17 speakers.
More interior space
It’s evident that Jaguar is looking to make the XF more suitable for typical luxury car buyers who prioritise rear seat space over other things. Compared with the previous generation XF, rear knee-room has increased by 24mm. Adding more to the comfort is the additional 15mm of rear legroom.
Variants and prices
The 2016 Jaguar XF is available in a total of five variants – three diesel and two petrol. The entry-level diesel powered XF Pure costs Rs 49.50 lakh whereas the top-spec Portfolio trim comes in at Rs 62.10 lakh. As for the petrol model, the Prestige variant is priced at Rs 55.65 lakh while the fully loaded XF Portfolio is yours for Rs 61.85 lakh.
