Dodge has been teasing its drag monster, the Demon for what seemed like an eternity before the Demon made a dramatic entry on the dragstrip at the NY Motor Show. However, even before that, its arch rival, the Camaro went under the hands of Hennessey to become the ‘Exorcist’. Well played Hennessey, well played.
The American aftermarket tuner took the maddest Camaro, the ZL1 ‘Hammer’, and did the sacramental ritual to inflame the power figures of the Chevy’s LT4 V8 engine to a jaw-dropping 1000bhp and 1309Nm (a lot more than the Demon that’s for sure). The stratospheric power figures are due to a sizeable upgrade to the higher flowing supercharger, the intercooler and summing up 14psi of boost. The standard modification includes ported factory cylinder heads, enhanced camshaft, long-tube stainless steel headers, high-flow air induction system and custom tuned engine calibration. The four-figure madness is channelled to the drag radials through either six-speed manual or the 10-speed automatic transmission standard in the ZL1.
The Exorcist will deliver 0-100kmph times in less than 3seconds while running the quarter mile in less than 10seconds, says John Hennessey, founder and president of the American tuner. However, while the Demon is purpose-built to rule the drag strip, with every piece of equipment in it has been outfitted to ensure that the Demon goes blisteringly fast down the quarter mile, the Exorcist takes a different route. As John Hennessey asserts, “The Exorcist is not just a quarter mile racer. It’s a well-rounded super muscle car that is just as happy on a road course as it is on the dragstrip and street. Needless to say, this will leave the competition’s heads spinning.”
Visually, you’d be hard pressed to find any distinct appearance in the Exorcist over the standard ZL1. Apart from the Exorcist insignia, this could be the ultimate sleeper don’t you think? Hennessey Performance would gladly retrofit all the Exorcist upgrades to your ZL1, or you could just walk into the Hennessey store and get yours delivered at any drag strip – yes the Exorcist will be delivered to you at a drag strip – for 119,000USD. Only 100 Exorcists will take on the road each year.
