Porsche has been working on a flat-four that might power the Boxster in the future according to reports. But, how far is the future? Have we got one already? As the company’s Belgium website has silently listed a Boxster with an output of 208bhp.
The new variant hasn’t been officially launched, but it has been on sale in the company’s Belgium website. However, it doesn’t get the new small capacity flat-four, instead it gets the same 2.7-litre engine detuned to about 208bhp, according to the website. The variant is offered for about 52,030 EUR (Rs 41 lakh) with manual gearbox and 55,115 EUR (Rs 43.5 lakh) for the one with the optional PDK transmission.
It is uncertain if Porsche will launch this new entry- level model worldwide or whether it is a domestic variant to satiate the local tax watchdogs similar to how Porsche Norway had reduced the power output of Boxster and Cayman for reduced import taxation about five years ago.
We thank our stars as nothing of this sort has happened in India as our tax structure is not based on power for imports. All we pray for is none of the authorities get this weird idea and declare tax reduction on lesser power which defeats the whole point of a sports car.
