GWM
In a show of intent, Great Wall Motors marked its entry into the highly-competitive Indian automotive market at the Auto Expo 2020. Showcasing its technological prowess and manufacturing abilities, GWM displayed its range of sophisticated electric cars and premium intelligent SUVs at the Expo.
GWM also made the global premiere of the Haval Concept H and the Indian debut of the Haval Vision 2025 connected SUV. So, let's take a deeper dive into the world of GWM.
GWM is the largest maker of SUVs in China with its range of Haval SUVs. And, with the Indian market bustling with premium sports utility vehicles, GWM has just the right recipe to succeed in India. GWM showcased the Haval F5 mid-size SUV at the Auto Expo 2020, which is larger than other SUVs in the its range and has a longer wheelbase too. That, coupled with a distinctive and muscular design, and premium interiors, the F5 makes for a perfect product for the domestic market.
Also gracing the GWM pavilion were the Haval F7, Haval F7x and the big daddy, Haval H9 SUVs. The F7x is a coupe version of the F7 that brings a unique body-style to the segment, and a design philosophy that we've only seen in the luxury end of the market. The F7x is an amalgamation of muscular design and a dramatically sloping roofline that adds an aura of sportiness to the SUV. Apart from its design, the F7x comes loaded with intelligent next-gen features making it one of the most futuristic SUV offering.
And then, there was the Haval H9 full-size three-row SUV at the GWM stall. The H9 is a brute of an SUV with massive proportions, immense road presence and a proper two-box design. The H9 comes packed with intelligent safety systems and all the bells and whistles that one would expect off such an SUV.
That's not all, the company also showcased the GMW EV R1 and the GWM EV iQ electric cars. The GWM EV R1 combines a modern-retro design with intelligent connectivity and safety features. It's highlight includes a 33kWh battery pack that offers a range of 351km on a single charge and fast charging capabilities.
The GWM EV iQ is an electric fastback that offers a good blend of a futuristic design and minimalism. It draws power from a BorgWarner-sourced permanent magnet synchronous motor that produces 161bhp and 480Nm. The ternary battery pack offers a driving range of 401km on a single charge. The GWM EV iQ is built around a high rigidity frame that offers agility and safety to the EV. It gets intelligent connectivity features that allows the user to remotely control some functions of the car.
With the SUV and electric vehicle segments on the rise, GWM clearly has the right products to succeed in India. What's more, the company recently bought GM India's Talegaon manufacturing facility and plans to invest around $ 1 billion (approx. Rs 7,000 crore) in India to build its R&D in India and locally manufacture its products here. GWM's first product for India will be an SUV, which will be launched in 2021. With a right product strategy, technological prowess and localised manufacturing, GWM is the brand to watch out for in the near future.
