GWM EV Cars
Great Wall Motors (GWM) announced its foray into the Indian market by announcing the world premiere of the Haval Concept H at the Auto Expo 2020. The company also displayed the Concept 2025 and a range of its EVs and SUVs. GWM is betting big on EVs and plans to manufacture battery cells and e-drivetrains in India. The company also showcased the GWM R1 and the GWM iQ EVs at the Expo. So, let’s take a deeper look at both the electric vehicles.
GWM R1
The GWM R1 is a battery electric vehicle, which also happens to be the most affordable EV in the world. It incorporates a modern-retro design with contemporary interiors and intelligent connectivity and safety features. The R1 EV is based on the ME platform, which is a special electric architecture developed to offer large space, high safety, intelligent connectivity and lightweight construction.
The GWM R1 is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that develops 47bhp and 125Nm of peak torque. The electric motor is paired to a 33kWh battery pack that offers a driving range of 351km on a single charge under the NEDC cycle. What’s more, a rapid fast charger can charge the battery pack up to 80 per cent in 40 minutes, while it also comes with a 6.6kW AC charger as an option.
The R1 gets advanced connectivity features like intelligent voice interconnected system, Smartphone integration, keyless entry with push button start and a mobile app to remotely control the various functions of the car. What’s more, the GWM R1 comes packed with safety features like front collision warning, automatic emergency braking, reverse parking camera with reverse radar for clear vision and tyre pressure monitoring system. And there’s an added safety of dual front airbags along with side and curtain airbags.
GWM iQ
The GWM iQ is a pure electric compact fastback the features a futuristic exterior design that complements the minimalistic interior layout. The cabin incorporates a humanised craftsmanship that enables a comfortable drive experience.
It is equipped with a ternary lithium-ion battery pack that is paired to a BorgWarner sourced permanent magnet synchronous motor that puts out 161bhp and 280Nm of peak torque. The battery pack delivers a range of 401km on a single charge.
The GWM iQ is built around a high rigidity body structure that offers safety as well as agility to the EV. Safety is at the forefront of GWM, as the iQ comes loaded with multiple airbags, TPMS, ESP, and rear parking assist with blind spot warning. What's more, the intelligent fastback comes with smart internet connectivity features that allows you to remotely control your car's functions like setting a Geo-fence, access car's telematics data, remote car locator and much more.
