The Jeep has always been one of the most speculated SUVs. There have been speculations for over a year now that the vehicle will be launched in India. Now, the good news is that the vehicles from Jeep will be brought to India by Fiat. The Grand Cherokee, the Cherokee and the Wrangler Jeep are expected to be displayed at the Delhi Auto Expo.
'Grand' Cherokee, as the name suggests, will boast of comfort and luxury. The car with its large dimensions has a huge presence. With its ability to take the bad roads easily, it makes a good contender for the Indian road conditions. However, only the five-seater variant is expected to be introduced in our country and the car still brags about the spacious interiors that come packed with a lot of features.
The Grand Cherokee is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that produces 237bhp of power and 549Nm of torque. This power is transmitted to all four wheels. The other engine option is the 470bhp, 6.4-litre petrol V8 mill which is unlikely to be brought to Indian consumers. The suspension and the steering are tuned for comfort rather than handling making it suitable for Indian roads.
India has always been a country apt for big cars. The Wrangler is a tough, off-roader vehicle that has been marketed as a lifestyle product rather than as a premium luxury car . Nevertheless, the introduction of these vehicles should amuse the off-roader enthusiasts in India as well. The Grand Cherokee will go up against the SUVs like the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5 when launched in India.
