The pre-launch website for Jeep, www.jeep-india.com was launched today, with the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler models featuring on it.
Jeep, starting with Willys produced the first civilian jeep in 1945. It is the only company that continued producing jeeps after the world war and are still doing so. Jeep also produces premium off-road SUVs.
Late in 2012, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India had announced they would be launching Jeep along with the Abarth brand. Then, in 2013 FCA India announced they would delay the launch of Jeep due to financial issues, and the lack of a market in India. A couple of years later, FCA India went on to launch the Abarth brand and have now launched Jeep. FCA India, as planned, have brought in the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler. The initial plan was only providing diesel engines, but they plan on selling the powerful petrol SRT variant as well. The SRT Grand Cherokee will have a 475hp 6.4-litre v8 engine. It will be one of the most powerful SUVs available in India.
Speaking on the occasion Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, FCA India, said, “It gives us immense pride to launch this iconic Jeep brand in India. Today, FCA embarks on a new expedition in the Indian market and we hope this significant milestone will help us to firmly establish Jeep in India right from the start.”
“The new Jeep brand positioning on the website reflects an ambition to expand the marque’s global footprint while staying true to its legacy. Stay tuned to experience more about this exciting brand’s arrival in India in the coming months.”
The Grand Cherokee and Wrangler will be displayed at the Auto Expo 2016. There is also a chance of them previewing the India-specific vehicle which is currently in the development phase.
