Motorists in the country will no longer have to worry about carrying documents physically, as the Indian Government will soon introduce a digital copy of the driving licence and vehicle registration which can be viewed over your smartphone. The government had launched the DigiLocker app last year which performs as a digital locker for all government documents. In order to facilitate motorists, DigoLocker has partnered with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
The DigiLocker Android application has been simplified for easy usage and it verifies the user’s phone number using an OTP. Once connected to the app, the user has to fill in Aadhar card details and start uploading documents which are scanned by them or are issued by the government agencies in e-document format. The Traffic Police can also view the documents via their own version of DigiLocker app installed in their device. It can also be used for issuing penalty points accordingly.
The user data is safely secured in cloud storage space. An official government release in the regard states that, “besides being convenient for people, this will also result in assured authenticity of such documents and reduction of administrative overhead.” Post enforcement, the motorists can directly show the digital copy of the driving licence and vehicle registration certificate, thereby eliminating the need to carry physical copies of the same.
