GM had earlier halted production of the Sail sedan and hatchback to rectify quality issues while the Tavera BSIII was put on hold due to niggles related to the emissions. General Motors India Vice-President P Balendran has now said that they will resume production for the Sail models by the end of this month and the Tavera by the end of August.
The production, which had stopped on the June 11, has heavily affected the sale of these models. The Tavera sales from May to June fell from nearly 1500 units to none. The Sail sedan and hatchback also encountered close to 50 per cent drop in its sales figures over the month.
Chevrolet has still not announced specific reasons as to why production was halted or a notice for probable recalls. But if the issue is quality related, the existing customers will certainly want updated and better quality fitments.
