General Motors India has embarked on a plan to have at least 300 dealerships and service points across the country by the end of the year. Their focus is on opening new facilities in tier II and tier III cities, where much of the demand for vehicles is taking place as a result of increased economic activities in the semi-urban and rural areas.
The new dealerships will also support GM’s drive to revamp their entire range in India. The Sail U-VA hatchback will be the first car to be launched in October; it will then be followed by the Sail sedan. The Ertiga competitor MUV, the Enjoy, will also be launched by the end of this year. The new products have been developed under their partnership with Chinese manufacturer SAIC and fine tuned for the Indian market. After all-new launches, the Spark and the Beat will also get a facelift, while the ageing models like the Aveo, U-VA and the Optra will be discontinued.
Speaking on the expansion drive, Lowell Paddock, president and MD of GM India, said “The new outlets will support the growing Chevrolet lineup across the country. This is part of GM India’s goal of expanding the accessibility of its products and becoming a volume player in the market.” They currently have 279 sales points and 272 service outlets. The American car manufacturer has also opened a 24X7 call centre which can be contacted on 3030-8080 from any landline or mobile phone across the country.
