General Motors bankruptcy in 2009, forced them to give up on the Hummer brand, an attempt to sell it was made, but to no avail. The brand was eventually declared defunct in 2010. Does America miss the Hummer? Well, GM thinks so; the American automotive major isconsidering a new product akin to the Hummer.
The new vehicle will be a purpose built rugged off-roader to take on rough terrain. These details were revealed by an automotive website that had a chance to talk to a GMC designer. When GM brought the brand from AM General, they marketed it as a niche brand with lifestyle products. The brand had the H1, H2 and the H3 on sale, of which the H2 and H3 were available as trucks as well.
Although, there is not much information on when this model might hit the market, but given that it won’t be a mainstream model, it won’t be brought in a jiffy. The SUV might have a large capacity petrol motor, but if they want to market it globally a diesel engine is mandatory.
This news also leaves us with a lot to think about, its looks and performance and the crucial point will it come to India? Considering that despite being an SUV hungry country we are also very fuel conscious. So getting this monster on the roads here will require some serious effort and money. Well let’s wait and watch as to how the new SUV shapes up under GM.
