General Motors will recall around 1.5 lakh vehicles in India for wiring problems linked to a remote keyless entry accessory.
GM India said that it would recall Chevrolet Spark and Beat hatchbacks and the Enjoy MPV manufactured between 2007 and 2014 that are fitted with the accessory. It is a gadget which allows owners to open their cars without a traditional, mechanical key. This wiring fault could spoil the accessory and could lock customers out.
"The remote keyless entry accessory meets all the relevant regulatory standards; however, GM India has been made aware of some isolated cases where certain Chevrolet Spark, Beat and Enjoy vehicles were fitted with a faulty accessory," said the company in a statement.
This is the second time the company is recalling vehicles in such large numbers. In 2013, the company recalled 1,14,000 Tavera utility vehicles over issues related to emission norms.
