- The four cars to focus on two topics - electric mobility and performance
German car manufacturer, Volkswagen, takes the centre stage at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show with four world premieres – ID. Buggy concept, near-production eight-generation Passat, T-Roc R and the Touareg V8 TDI. The four cars focus on two topics – electric mobility and performance.
The ID. Buggy presents the new facet of modular electric drive matrix (MEB). The company claims that the design of the electric concept car is a modern interpretation of the popular US dune buggy of the sixties and seventies. Back then, the Beetle chassis served as the basis. Today, the MEB demonstrates similar flexibility and Volkswagen once again underscores the platform’s potential in the shape of the ID. Buggy. Size, battery and drive are all scalable thereby enabling easy configuration across various models for different segments.
Volkswagen claims that the eighth generation Passat will offer better comfort, be more digital and technologically sophisticated. The travel assist feature makes its world premiere with the Passat. It will be the first Volkswagen with this assist system that can travel partially automated at speeds of up to 210kmph. The capacitive steering wheel detects the touch by the driver, thereby providing an interactive interface to systems such as Travel Assist. The 30 millionth Passat will leave the assembly line in spring this year.
Volkswagen T-Roc R, a new sporty top model claims to offer impressive performance figures at the time of launch. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine that generates 292bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. The vehicle is reportedly capable of sprinting from 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds, while the top speed is electronically restricted to 250kmph.
The German car manufacturer has revealed that the Touareg V8 TDI has been showcased at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show 2019 as the most powerful diesel SUV from the company’s production line. The V8 version produces 405bhp of power and 900Nm of torque. The new V8 version also meets the requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emission standard. The standard equipment list also includes four-corner air suspension for perfect comfort and aerodynamic driving on rough terrain.
