Lexus has introduced a new sub NX crossover called the UX. It’s touted to be the rival for the likes of the BMW X1, Audi Q3 and it will bring Lexus into the volumes game that these models enjoy. The car was previously teased in the run up to the show and will be put into production later this year.
As expected, the UX picks up the looks of the larger NX crossover and has a similar silhouette, grille design and even the shape of the tail lamps. However, to differentiate the cars, Lexus has obviously made the NX smaller and given it a different design for the boot door.
At the time of its launch in the US market and subsequently other markets around the world, the UX will be available in the UX200 and UX250h. Both variants will also get F-Sport packages. The UX200 is a conventional model and is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 168bhp while the 250h gets the same engine but with an electric motor on the rear axle to provide AWD. However, no specs have been released for the 250h so far. The F-Sport variants get exterior and interior updates, 18-inch wheels and retuned suspension or even optional adaptive suspension.
Is the UX coming to India? Yes, since its already established that there are good numbers for the likes of the X1, Q3 and even the Mercedes-Benz GLA. However, this is going to be a CBU and will be priced much higher than its rivals.
