BMW has now unravelled their entire 8 Series line-up with the debut of the M8 Gran Coupe concept at Geneva. Along with the 8 Series coupe and the convertible, the 8 Series Gran Coupe has completed the nomenclature shift from the earlier 6 Series to the 8 Series in BMW scheme of things.
The M8 Gran Coupe comes right on the heels of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe, both being performance-luxury coupe-sedans. Unlike Mercedes, BMW takes the sloping roof-line into a well-defined boot-lid that adds much more character to the Gran Coupe. BMW’s styling has nailed the kidney-grille-angry-eyes look with the yellow LED signatures for the headlamps while the long hood, a raked windshield and a prominent shoulder line add muscle to the equation.
The Hofmeister’s kink harks back to the BMW roots and the fender-slit on the sides and the penta-bloc alloy wheels look raucous. The ‘Saleve-vert’ Green with golden accents paint scheme looks stunning with the elements of the M8 Gran Coupe design popping out due to it. As for the powertrains, BMW has been quite light-lipped, but, it will certainly get the straight sixes along with the V8s in addition to the hybrid setups.
To be launched in early 2019, the 8 Series is expected to become the flagship of the BMW line-up, offering buyers something that will stand out from the crowd. If this is true, it might turn out that there may be a sedan in the making to supersede the 7 Series or that the Gran Coupe will only be offered with fully loaded premium trims.
