Audi’s mid-size pocket rocket, the RS 5, has been showcased in its latest generation during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The most powerful vehicle in the ‘5’ family of the German automaker, it is the first one to sport their new design philosophy and gives us a preview of the next round of Audis will look like.
Firstly, this new RS5 sports the latest Audi design language that we saw in the Prologue concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The silhouette has stayed the same but now the edges and lines have become sharper giving a more defined outline. This new sharper outlook has resulted in a meaner looking face a fact that has been enhanced by the shape of the headlamps. The side profile has been carried over from the current car while the rear end is dominated by a silver finish diffuser element and massive exhaust pipes that have been integrated into the bumper.
The cabin is standard Audi fare and looks like an upgrade of the current RS5’s cabin but now with the inclusion of the virtual cockpit that debuted with the Q7 in late 2015. Everything has been fitted in black leather with a host of RS badges to signify the pedigree of the car.
The bit that puts RS in RS 5 is a new 2.9-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine producing 447bhp/600Nm. There is no word out on the gearbox but we believe that it will be a sporty oriented nine-speed unit with permanent quattro AWD system.
The car will be launched for the UK market later this year indicating that the automaker will produce the car for RHD locations. This means we too will get the car shortly after its British debut.
