The Jaguar I-Pace was the British marque’s next big leap towards electrification. It was first showcased at the 2016 Los Angeles Motor Show and now will make its European debut at the forthcoming Geneva stage.
With the Germans already marching their battery powered onslaught, and the Tesla showcasing the electric future, Jaguar joined the fray capitalising on the ongoing crossover/SUV trend. The I-Pace assures more than just a green, clean, electric drive; it promises emotion and connects with pure Jaguar driving dynamics for it’ll be more like a sports car than an SUV.
Jaguar claims that the I-Pace will have at least a 450km of range on a single charge and it will be able to hit 100 kmph from standstill in around four seconds. A 90-kWh lithium-ion battery sits between the axles, driving two magnetic electric motors for a total power output of 395bhp and 700Nm of torque. The all-electric SUV will be made using an all-new aluminium platform, and the compact size of the electric motors will allow plenty of space in the cabin. Much of the car’s hardware will come from the F-Pace, including the double-wishbone front suspension and the compact integral link rear suspension. The Lithium-Ion batteries have been developed in-house and use pouch cells for their energy density and efficiency.
The I-Pace will garner all the attention at Jaguar’s stall in an all new ‘Photon Red’ body colour. Jaguar’s first all-electric SUV is set to be revealed only late this year and will hit the road sometime in 2018. Stay tuned to CarWale for complete coverage of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.
