This is a tricky one. The Genesis G80 test mule seen here is a fairly new car in the market which essentially rules out the testing of a mid-life facelift. Plus, the carmaker has also disclosed that the car is unlikely to get a performance oriented variant in the time to come. So, what exactly is the story behind this prototype?
Sources ultimately spotted the variations on the fender and concluded that this mule could be testing a new hybrid drivetrain. The front fender, in particular, seems to be an afterthought thanks to the misaligned wheel well, and wires can be seen popping out of the rocker panel strapped on to the body. Test mules carry rough-fitting panels all the time. And this is only so that the new powertrain components are covered. Hybrid systems are complex, and require a high level of alteration.
Genesis boss Manfred Fitzgerald has already spoken in the past about the importance of going electric, and the test-G80 seen in the pictures could be an indication of the same. As this is the first sighting of its kind, our spy shutter-bugs will stay glued to their cameras to give you more information in the time to come.
