Hyundai’s luxury arm, Genesis, has showcased its most extravagant car yet, the Essentia. This 2+2 electric two-door GT is all electric with a double-bubble roof that reminds us of Zagato.
The Genesis Essentia looks like a futuristic rendering of 60s coupe sportscars like the 250 GTO. The silhouette of the long hood, sloping roofline and the chopped tail has been recreated in perfect proportions. The bonnet and the entire roof is made out of glass, thus giving you a peek at the advanced inboard suspension setup as well as the luxurious cabin.
Unlike the current trend of having the batteries installed under the floor-pan, the batteries are stacked in the central spine to make it sit as low as possible, have a low roofline and not compromise on the cabin space. While no details of the electric setup have been divulged yet, it is expected to hit 100kmph in three seconds and that is seriously quick by all standards.
The Essentia concept was imagined by three stalwarts – Manfred Fitzgerald (ex-Lamborghini), Luc Donckerwolke (ex-Bentley) and Albert Biermann (ex-BMW M). With a carbon fibre tub, carbon fibre panels and the racing suspension setup, this concept has been thoroughly thought out. The Essentia concept might become a reality by 2020 if Hyundai gets good feedback from New York.
