General Motors had earlier halted the production of the Tavera BS III models along with the Sail sedan and hatchback. Following this stoppage, GM may recall up to 114000 units of the Chevrolet Tavera to resolve a previously detected emissions issues with the engine.
The recall if true will apply for both the BS III and the BS IV variants of the Tavera. The BS III variant of the Tavera is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine manufactured by AVTEC Limited while the BS IV model uses a 2.0-litre turbo diesel produced by ICML (International Cars and Motors Limited). GM had earlier publically stated that the issues were not safety related and the company has completed validations of the fix developed.
General Motors dealerships around India will assist in the recall and the work will be carried out at no extra charges. There has not been any official statement on this matter or regarding recall of Sail models. But GM had earlier confirmed that the production will commence buy the end of July for the Sail models while the Tavera will take another month to roll out of the production plant.
