General Motors India today announced their with India, in India and for India initiative by launching their locally-developed Smartech Engine. The 1.2-litre engine was developed in the company's Halol Research and Development facility and will be manufactured at the Talegaon Plant.
The engine will have aluminium cylinder heads and lightweight pistons that will significantly decrease the weight and would further enhance fuel emissions. This will also help in reducing the NVH levels. The Talegaon plant has a capacity of 1.6 lakh power trains and the second phase will have a capacity of 1.4 lakh power trains that will take the total capacity to three lakhs.
With 6 cars lined up in the next two years this step by General Motors is certainly ready with the technology and its only time that we see the company lining up their cars for the Indian market. So, brace yourself as GM paves the way with their Indian-made engine.
