- The model in question is likely to be the Skoda Kamiq
- The Kamiq is expected to be launched in India after the debut of the Karoq in 2020
Skoda had previously confirmed to CarWale that the Karoq premium SUV will be launched in India in 2020. The company has revealed its plans to launch a mid-size SUV in India in 2021, which could be the Kamiq.
Skoda’s plans to launch the Karoq and the upcoming mid-size SUV in India is a part of the company’s ‘India 2.0’ project, under which, the brand will bring products based on the MQB A0-IN platform. Unlike the Karoq which will be imported to the country via the CBU route, the Kamiq, once confirmed; will be a fully localized and manufactured product.
Design wise, the Skoda Kamiq features the signature blacked-out grille with vertical slats, flanked by wraparound headlamps with LED DRLs on either side. Also on offer are trapezoid-shaped fog lights. At the rear, the model receives LED tail lamps and a dual-tone bumper.
Internationally, the Skoda Kamiq is available with a 1.0-litre petrol motor, 1.5-litre TSI petrol motor and a 1.6-litre diesel motor. Transmission options include a six-speed manual unit and a seven-speed DSG unit. Once launched, the model could be positioned below the Karoq and will rival against the likes of the Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the Nissan Kicks.
