-EV tribute to the 1974 Pony Coupe concept
-Indication of future EV design from Hyundai
Hyundai has unveiled the 45 EV concept at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. It’s a tribute to the 1974 Pony Coupe Concept and is a reimaging of the car as the first in the path of Hyundai’s future EV line up.
The Pony Coupe Concept, designed by the legendary Italdesign studio and inspired from the Delorean DMC-12, at that time was a showcase of what Hyundai wanted from its cars in the future and well 45 years later we are back here again!
The 2019 45 concept has all the angular lines of the original car but in a modern interpretation and with massive wheels giving it an almost crossover like stance. This being an EV, the face is just a narrow slit with LED headlamps and a massive chin. The profile view shows the massive wheels and a triangular design element extending from the rear. It’s a similar story at the back with just a narrow slit for the lamps.
The interior is a beige affair with wood, leather a massive screen. The front passenger also gets a projector beam display for ease of interaction. The cabin has a flexible lay out there are sliding doors for ease of entry and exit. Hyundai has not spoken about the powertrain options but we are pretty certain that it will be multiple motors mounted on the individual axles with a high level of autonomous driving technology.
