German car manufacturer Audi has globally unveiled the AI: Trail off-road concept at the ongoing 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. Despite being powered by a high-capacity battery, the Audi AI: Trail weighs a mere 1,750kgs. The company claims that it has minimized the overall weight by using a mixture of high-tech steel, carbon fiber and aluminium.
In terms of dimensions, the Audi AI: Trail measures 4,150mm in length and is 2,150mm wide. The electric four-seat concept with a ground clearance of 343mm, combined with a set of large 22-inch is confidence inspiring on a tricky terrain. In an effort to provide maximum view around the vehicle, the windshield wraps around the front of the vehicle. The LED lights in the front can be controlled for brightness and can be used for the exterior as well as the interior.
Interestingly, the Audi AI: Trail gets level-four autonomous driving system, which is functional on off roads as well. The concept gets a range of sensors that detects obstacles and road conditions, while storing the data to aid the central driver assistance system. Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the AI: Trail is expected to offer a maximum driving range of up to 500kms (depending on the terrain). The electric motor generates 320 kilowatts and has maximum torque of 1,000Nm, powering all-four wheels.
